About the De Roo House
The De Roo House is a residence where sponsors of residents and patients, as well as friends, of Christian Health Care Center (CHCC) are welcome to stay. Located on the CHCC campus, the De Roo House, a residence rich in history, offers colonial charm with modern conveniences to create an atmosphere of warmth and elegance.
History of the De Roo House
The De Roo House is dedicated to the memory of Clarence De Roo, who served as a CHCC trustee and employee for more than 40 years. Clarence will always be remembered for his compassion and commitment to the Center's residents, family members, and staff. He and his family were motivated by their own personal desires to show Christian love and mercy to others in need, just as the founders of the Center did in establishing its mission.
Mr. Pustus, the owner of a chicken farm on Mountain Avenue, built the De Roo House. (The chicken coop is still visible as you enter the Center's upper campus on Mountain Avenue.) In 1956, the De Roo family made the house their residence. Clarence and his wife, Hilda, lived here for more than 35 years, where they raised their four sons and two daughters. Hilda is still an active member of the Center's Women's Auxiliary. Clarence became the Center's Business Manager and a trustee in 1956. During his employment, Clarence held the positions of Personnel Director, Public Relations Director, Dietary and Housekeeping Director, Risk Manager, Assistant Administrator, and Planned Giving Coordinator.
Clarence passed away in 1996, leaving a legacy of faithful Christian service. He has become a cornerstone in the Center's history. His generous contributions and example will live on.
