History of de Snoep Winkel

The 1960s was a period of growth at Christian Health Care with many construction projects undertaken. de Snoep Winkel, or "the sweet shop" in Dutch, opened at the end of the decade in Building No. 2 for the convenience of residents. Personal items, and refreshments were sold. In 1986, the board of trustees approved an unprecedented $12 million expansion plan for the Center. The project included not only the construction of a 120-bed addition to the nursing home, but also an 80-bed psychiatric hospital and centralized area to accommodate several other support services, including de Snoep Winkel Gift Shop. Today, de Snoep Winkel is a full-service gift shop open year-round to the public, and serves residents, patients, and staff of the Center.
